Randy and I were thrilled to get to ESCAPE to sunny Orlando,Florida for our first National School Board Convention. We quickly became spoiled to the WARM weather and palm trees! We went a couple days before the convention started and enjoyed driving around, shopping, and eating! There are some awesome restaurants in Orlando! This was my first trip to Orlando-and certainly won't be my last! There is SO much to do down there...
We went to the Universal Studios 'City Walk' and ate at Margaritaville and saw the Blue Man Group. What a fun show! Very entertaining and funny! We also went to two huge outlet malls- yes, my husband likes to shop at the outlets. He bought three pairs of shoes! Isn't that my job???
The convention was incredible- much bigger than any of our NAIFA conventions! There were about 12,000 people there. I went with Randy to two of the general sessions and heard Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Sidney Poitier. While Randy and the other board members went to the breakout sessions, I went with the other wives back to the hotel to soak up the sun by the pool! We stayed at the Rosen Shingle Creek. It is a beautiful resort!
The last day, the board decided to take an excursion to Epcot. At 39, I was finally getting to go to part of Disney World! We rode all the big rides (Soarin' was our favorite) and explored the whole park. The fireworks/laser show at the end of the night was spectacular!
On Tuesday, our flight didn't leave until 5:20pm, so Randy & I drove over to Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral. We walked out onto the beach- it was overcast, and the Atlantic just isn't as attractive as the Gulf. The waves were really crashing- it was nice just to listen to the sound of the ocean! We drove out towards the Kennedy Space Center- definitely a place I want to go back to with the boys. Randy finally got to see an alligator (several of them) in the wild!
It was a great trip- nice just to relax, just the two of us. Now we are back home- reality has set in and I am tackling the laundry! A big thank you to the grandmothers who took care of the boys while we were gone!
